LEGAL CHARGES
MORTGAGES ON LAND.
The provincial secretary of the Marlborough branch o{ the Farmers' Union has written to the executive of the Farmers' Union, stating.that the executive of the Marlborough branch had had under consideration the cost of preparing new mortgages or of releasing existing mortgages, and had been in communication with the Marlborough Law Society on the matter, which had replied that they worked under a Dominion scale of charges, and recommended the union to approach the New Zealand Law Society on the subject. In view, said the -writer, of the number of mortgages that would have to be rearranged, released, or renewed during 1924, before the moratorium expired, or shortly after it, the matter was a serious one to the farming community in view of the present heavy charges, which were raised during the war period and' had not since been reviewed. After a brief discussion, the Dominion executive of • the Farmers' Union to-day agreed that the matter be left in the hands of the secretary to communicate with the New Zealand Law Society in regard to the matter.
