TUBERCULAR DISEASE

CANTERBURY ACTIVITY

DANGER OF INFECTED MILK.

(BT TEIIGP.APH PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Hospital Committee of the Hospital Board has submitted recommendations to the Canterbury branch of the British Medical Association in favour of the establishemnt of a suitable place for cases of bone and joint tuberculosis, and also urging that Hospital Boards sliould endeavour to eradicate the main source of tubercular infection, namely, infected milk, and should take more active steps to segregate infected persons, especially where children were exposed to miection. Regarding the' treatment oi bone and joint cases, the clause was referred back to the committee to obtain medical evidence. During the discussion the complaint was made that the Canterbury Board's activity m fighting consumption was saddling the board with the expense of outside patients, whereas the Government should tackle the question nationally. . The other recommendations were adopted, as .well as a motion that the board should hold a conference with the JJairy Farmers' Association, the Farmers Union, and the A. and P. Assocition, with a view to securing more rigid testing of herds.
