STORAGE OF PETROL

AUCKLAND'S REGULATIONS.

(BT TEIBaRAPH.—SPECIAI, 10 TBB POST.)

AUCKLAND, This Day. A repetition of the action of a Government official in Christchurch in seizing unlicensed private petrol stocks cannot occur in Auckland. For the last two years the regulations have been strictly adhered to locally, and licenses have been issued in all necessary cases. Eegulations governing the storage of petrol are included in the bylaws of the Auckland City Council, and are Practically a Government regulation, 'hey provide that no person shall keep or store dangerous goods in the city without first haying obtained a license from the inspecting officer of the council, and then only to the extent permitted by the license. No license is required in the, case of petrol if the quantity does not exceed 8£ gallons, and if it is kept for private use and not for sale. t . Motor spirits, however, must be kept in substantial vessels, so securely closed that neither liquid nor vapour can escape, and all due precautions must be taken to prevent accident by fire or explosion and escape of dangerous goods in sewer or drain. In the city active inspection work is carried out by the council's inspector, with the result that all holders of benzine stocks ■who are required to hold licenses are complying with the bylaw. The only people who may not have licenses are those who have just built garages and have just acquired benzine stocks.
