Mr. G. A. Kennedy, formerly accountant in the Government Life Insurance Department, Wellington, has been promoted to the position of Secretary and Deputy-Commissioner of the Department, Mr. H. Rose, who was chief clerk, has been appointed accountant.

ihe resignation of Mr. A. C. Kitto from the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association' was accepted with regret at the monthly meeting of that body last night. Mr. "Kitto has resumed executive duties with the WeltuS n" Centre- An appreciation from the Canterbury Centre, .which he represented, was read, in which his services and hospitality to Canterbury athletes were eulogised. .

At the Lower Hutt Borough Council last evening, the Mayor (Mr. W. T Strand) said he wished, to take the first public opportunity of congratulating Councillor A. F. Roberts on his appointment at the British Empire Exhibition. It was pleasing to think that a gentleman from the Lower Hutt had been appointed. He wished Mr. Roberts every success, and hoped that after he returned he would take his seat at the council and. work for the welfare of the residents.. Councillor Roberts expressed his appreciation of the remarks made. Whilst regretting that he would have to leave the council for a time, he considered it his duty to serve the Dominion. He sincerely hoped that he would be able to carry out his duties at Home to the satisfaction of all.
