SENSATION AT WAIHI
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY WITH
VIOLENCE
MAN STRUCK D©WN WITH AN
IRON BAR.
(BI TBLBGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
WAIHI, This Day
■ A most sensational attempt at theft occurred about 10 o'clock last night, when the residence of Samuel Tanner was entered and the owner struck down by an iron bar. The blow was partially warded off, but the force was such that Tanner was momentarily dazed. On recovering he grappled with his assailant, struck several blows, and was hurled through a closed window. The object of the intruder was clearly to rob Tanner of a substantial sum of money he had won at the races at Hamilton during the day. The man, who escaped, was a stranger, and the presumption is tliat ho had seen Tanner lifting the dividend and followed him from Hamilton, to Waihi.
