HEAVY DEFEAT REPORTED
DESERTION BY GUNBOATS.

(Received Ist November, 9 a.m.) PEKIN, 31st October. _ Advices from Canton report that Sun Xat Sens troops were heavily defeated near \\ai-chow, and that'four gunboats, which have hitherto supported his cause, suddenly declared their neutrality on bunday, and left on an unknown destinatwn. Only one loyal gunboat remains at Canton.
