WELLINGTON CLUB
The Wellington Club held its B grade championship on Saturday over a five-mile course, starting from-Lyail Bay,_ going across the sandhills, and skirting Miramar, finishing down Oriepu road. Eleven runners' faced the ■starter, Mr. C. Edwards. .From the start Weston took the, lead, with the rest closely bunched, till about the halfmile was reached, when the pack began to string out. J. Robinson then moved to the front, followed by Peacock and L. Watson, these three alternately making the pace until about two miles from home, when Peacock took the lead, and on entering the straight clapped on the pace, eventually winning by about 80 yards from J. Robinson, with L. Watson 30 yards back third. C, Peacock ran a splendid race, his time being SS ram «sec, which is considered good time for a novice over a heavy course. A sealed handicap was held in conjunction with the ra«e, and on adjusting the handicaps the winner was W. Johnson, time 32-58; C. Devereux second, 33 : 11; .J. Robertson and R. Mowbray dead-heating for third place, with 33-15. The officials for the day wer e Messrs. o.' Edwards, J. B. Mowbray, S. Hilliker, and P. Dement.
