The tender of Mr. J. C. Guy for the carting of pipes was accepted. Members of the newly-formed Croquet Club waited on the Borough Council and asked that additional land be secur- ! ed to enlarge the domain and provide two croquet greens. The council promised to consider the matter. Owing to lack of funds, the Otaki Library is to be. closed, and the building | sold It is now probable that the Borough Council will take over the books Presentations to the carnival queens and Mr C. Day (master of ceremonies) were made at a social on Thursday. The various queens—Misses Cotterell, F. Bevan, 0 Rourke, and Webber—were each given a wristlet watch or bangle, and Mr. Day a well-filled wallet. •„■ At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, exception was taken to the action of the Horowhenua Rugby Union in allocating all representatives matches to Levin. It was also stated that correspondence was ignored, and only verbal arrangements made relating to championship fixtures, 3 tc. Of 23 boarders at. the Native College 11 are down with influenza, while the local medico, Methodist minister, Town Uerk, and several schoolteachers are affected. Influenza is practically in all households.
