SETTLERS OF MEANS
NEW CAPITAL FOR THE
DOMINION.

. LONDON, 6th July. An interesting; table has been compiled by the Migration Branch of the High Commissioner's Department. This sets out details regardine inquiries made by neopje of means who have contemplated settling in New Zealand. The period dealt with is from 4th June, 1922, to 2nd June, 1923. During that time, 12,896 people made inquiries at the bureau in the hall of the New Zealand Office, or an average of 43.1 per working day. Included in this number are what are called substantial inquirers whose names and addresses have been ascertained, who have given some particulars in regard to themselves and whose capital approximates to £1000 and over.
Of these .there were 363, having a total capital of £1.259,400. and an annual income of £68,745. Those who have already sailed for New Zealand number 115. with capital amountine to £404,400, and income amountine; to £20,560. Another 88 are sailine shortly nnd these have capital amountine to £339,400, and an income of £23,680.
These people, of course, have nothing to do with the migration scheme, but they are nierelv substantial people who have gone out to the Dominion on their own account without assistance from the Government. Others may have sailed without having come to the Hi^h Commissioner's office at all.
