A BRIGAND'S COURTSHIP.

ROME, sth August. Twenty-nine years ago Angelo Quarto, a well-known brigand, was sentenced to forty years' imprisonment in Sardinia. During his periods on parole he met Ignazia Mandris, daughter of a local land-owner, and they carried on "a clandestine attachment. Quarto, who was recently pardoned and released, went to the girl's house and asked her hand in marriage. Her parents were shocked and refused. The same night the girl smuggled Quarto into her room, and next morning the couple barricaded the door and refused to be ejected. They fired upon the police with revolvers, and wounded one. When the door was forced open, Quarto was found shot dead, and the girl fatelly wounded. ' •
