SKILLED WORKERS
EMPLOYERS COMPLAIN OF
SHORTAGE
IMMIGRATION SUGGESTED

ADELAIDE, Ist August. A deputation representing various employers' associations waited oh the Premier and complained of the shortage of skilled labour. They suggested that sufficient artisans should be brought from England to supply the shortage tinder ah immigration scheme. They also advocated shorter terms of apprenticeship, as the absurd wages paid to boys its unskilled labourers operated against their binding themselves for long terms. The Premier, Sir Henry Barwell, was sympathetic in his reply, but he doubted if sufficient skilled men were obtainable in Britain, where there was a shortage.
