CARTKRTON, This Day. The Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association will hold its annual competitions at Carterton on Saturday, 18th August. The prize money has been fixed from £1 to £1 10s, and it was decided to allow the optional sighter. The Carterton Borough Council has decided to use bitumen for spraying the streets.
The Wairarapa P. and A. Society has accepted the following tenders for work in the showgrounds:—Sheep pavilion, in hardwood, etc., £310, R. N. Wallis, Carterton; pens, in hardwood, £115. R. N. Wallis, Carterton.
Mr. L. Leach is at present relieving on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand's Carterton branch.
MASTERTON, This Day. The conference of local bodies to consider the highways question was held in Masterton yesterday. Mr. T. G. Mur-■(-■iiy, Representing' the Main Highway Board, and' Mr. C. Hardinge, representing ths Public Works Department, were present, Mr. Murray explained the Highways Act,"and answered many questions. After a short discussion, it was decided to accept the area No. 10 highways district with the exception of the Woqdville County.
The annual meeting of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company and the special meeting to hear the . report of the committee which investigated the affairs of the company, have^been fixed for Wednesday, 22nd August. At a meeting of parishioners of St -Matthew's Church last night, it was decided to erect a parish hall and Sunday school on the vacant, section adjoining the church grounds in Church street. beveral lines of lambs in the Wairarapa have already been sold for forward delivery at 20s. •
