MANAWATU

(BY TELEOP.APH.~SPECIAI. TO THE POST.)

PALMERSTON N., This Day. A number of prominent citizens are aid up with influenza, amongst them being, the Rev. J. Milburn Stewart, Mr. H. L. Young, and Mr. A. M. Ongley. The list of criminal cases set down for hearing at the session of the Supreme Court opening here on Tuesday next is a very - light one. . Two prisoners will come up for sentence, while five accused persons will come up for trial. At the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Young Women's Christian Association the balance-sheet showed a loss of £172 7s on the past year's working of the hostel. It was pointed out that although the loss for the past year was shown as £172 7s, it would have been £250 had it not beeu for the donations, received. During the six years in which the hostel had been in use, £1300 had been received in donations, and had it not been for these there would have been considerably heavier losses. The opinion was expressed that although the hostel had served its purpose, it was no use continuing it at a loss. The meeting was adjourned for three weeks, when a decision will be arrived at as to whether the hostel will be disposed of. Sir. David Dunbar, who was an old resident of Feilding, passed away yesterdaymorning at the Old People's Home at Awapuni, aged 91 years. He came to New Zealand 61 years ago in the sailing ship Geelong, and served in the Maori War in Taranaki and elsewhere under Major Atkinson. Subsequently he was engaged in farming in the Feilding district for over 30 years.
