RENT RESTRICTION
A correspondent's ("Curious") inquiry as to the position of tenants receiving notice from landlords of an intention to increase rentals at a fortnight's notice, or, alternatively, to take over the premises at the end of the two weeks, was referred to an officer' of the Labour Department to-day, whose reply was that the position to-day -was unaltered since the Rent Restriction regulations had been further- extended till July, 1924, and further, that notices of intention to charge increased rental or notice to quit were, in law, necessarily of a clear four .weeks, unless' the parties had entered into some special agreement. The Rent Restriction'^ clauses, the officer remarked, remained in force, a point on which many/people were apparently, not clearly informed, and a landlord could not simply order a tenant out without good reason being' given.
