UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE CITY
The position in regard to unemployment in the city appears to be' easing up somewhat, though the figures for tho week ended yesterday show that 271 men applied at the Government Labour Bureau in Ghuznee street, the great majority being labourers, 126 fit for heavy work and 15 for-light work. Cooks and stewards and hotel workers figure yon the list of applications 18, drivers 17, farm hands ,10, seamen and firemen 17, clerks 12, engineers,. etc., 10, shop assistants 7, and the other applications are spread over a great variety of trades. No carpenters reported as being unemployed, and actually the Department can place a certain number in work, also one plumber and a pattern-maker. !As the weather improves, it is considered, the number of labourers unemployed . will fall rapidly, for the reason that contractors will be going ahead on works at present delayed for the spring.
