HOMESTEAD BURNED

TOTAL LOSS ESTIMATED AT £8500.

(BI TELIORAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

DANNEVIRKE, 24th May. The Glengarry homestead, about three miles from Damievirke, was totally destroyed by fire this afternoon. It was a wooden building, consisting of 22 rooms: Part of the house was old, but a considerable portion of it was new. It is surmised that the fire originated in the region of the hot water service. Through lack of fire-fighting facilities, nothing could be done to extinguish the flames, which consumed the building in a very short space of time.

Practically nothing was saved. The structure and furniture, the property of Major James. Armstrong, were valued at £8500, and were insured for approximately £6500 in the Standard Office.
