RAILWAY MATTERS

MR. M'VILLY IN THE SOUTH.

(IT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

ASHBURTON, This Day.

Mr. M'Villy received a deputation today, and promised to consider the improvement of the Wednesday service to enable farmers to attend the Addington market; also the speeding up of slow trains generally, particularly the morning train to Timaru and Ashburton, and va.rious local matters. • Concerning bells at level crossings, .Mr. M'Villy said that owing to the peculiar situation of Tancred street crossing, the-bell would ring when not required, and thus mislead people. The Department was always plad to render crossings safer, but most accidents were the result of recklessness by ' motorists.' Instead of blaming the railways they should join in educating people to be careful.
