UNITING LABOUR
TRADES COUNOILS'AND
ALLIANCE.
A proposal for uniting the trades and labour counoils throughout the Dominion with the. Alliance of Labour is being advanced a stage, and it is likely that representatives of the alliance and the trades oouncilsjnay meet shortly to discuss the matter.
Originally, it' was suggested_ that the old Trades and Labour Councils' Federation should be revived in order to place before the Legislature, or the Arbitration Court, whenever the occasion should arise, a definite consensus of opinion on matters which affected the interests of the workers. When the delegates from the trades councils met at Christchurch recently it was decided to recommend to their respective bodies tho.t the Alliance of Labour should be approached to see whether it would be willing to alter its constitution in order to accept the affiliation of the tradss and labour councils, which should become district councils of the alliance.
At the laet meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, over which Mr. .J. Read presided, it was decided to adopt the recommendation of the GhTifltchurch conference, and it was reported that the Canterbury council had followed the same course.
