MAJOR BELCHER'S PHOTOGRAPHS

"I noticed in the remarks of "The Post's' London correspondent published on Tuesday evening, that Major Belcher had been giving an illustrated lecture of his recent Empire tour including New Zealand," said Mr. B. M. Wilson, General Manager of the Tourist Department to a "Post" reporter to-day, "andi that his 'views of New Zealand (which, it.is previously stated, were taken by himself) are not numerous, but they naturally compare more than favourably with the deplorably worn and out-of-date lantern slides of the High Commissioner.' Either Major Belcher or *The Post's' correspondent," said Mr. Wilson, "is responsible for a misstatement. The High Commissioner's stock of lantern slides was some months ago replenished with some of the finest views obtainable in New Zealand; while the photographs which Major Belcher took away with him were specially procured for him by the Tourist Department. at his own request, and supplied him gratis. These views illustrated his trip through New Zealand, and in some cases they required to be purchased from local photographers to enable the most comprehensive set to be got together." As a matter of fact, by the last mail Mr. Wilson received a letter from Major BeTcher thanking the Department, and expressing appreciation of the views sent him.
