THE FORLORN HOPE
NO HELP FROM RED RUSSIA
GERMANS DISAPPOINTED AGAIN.
(PUBLISHED IN THG TIMES.>
(Received 30th January, a.m.)
LONDON, 29th January. "The Times" Berlin correspondent declares :—-"No hope remains in Berlin Government circles that Russia can usefully help. Anticipating the occupation of the Ruhr, German military experts had consulted a prominent Russian staff officer on a tentative plan of action outlined, including an advance through Poland and the occupation of the border States, and the provocation of risings in, Eastern and Southern Europe, but the German, experts sent to Russia to inquire returned with -nost pessimistic reports. They declared that the Red army was ill-quipped, undependable, and not fit to undertake an offensive beyond, the borders of Russia.
"Independent observations also show that the Soviet authorities are now unwilling to risk a serious disturbance of their own power by military complications beyond the frontier."
