MORE DEMONSTRATIONS
USE OF-FIREARMS AGAINST /MOBS.
PARIS, 27th January.
There were demonstrations at Duisberg against the arrest of State officials. Belgian troops arrested twentytwo persons, and cavalry dispersed the. crowd. The French commander warned^ the chief of police at Essen that in fu-^ ture when French posts are attacked by mobs, the French will use firearms. The Allied High Commission has ordered the expulsion of German- officials from the occupied territory, because th.ey refuse to obey orders. R^ilwaymen struck at Coblenz. The Foreign Offics states that there are 50,000 troops in the Ruhr, also 4800 railwaymen. The French moratorium plan has' been, suspended, because Belgium and Italy do not support it. It.is thought that Cabinet will prepare a new scheme when the situation in the Ruhr is easier. The German coal owners paid 40 per cent, tax on coal outside the occupied area, not v at Dusseldorf, as formerly.
