COLLEGE MATCH

POOR AND GOOD

BOWLING.

Bowlers , and fieldsmen . monopolised the play yepterday -afternoon, in the match between Wellington College <vpd Wanganui Collegiate School, and the result was that the scoring in the second innings of both teams fell far short of that in iShe first innings. Wellington, with a lead' of 46 runs, on the first innings, were kept exceedingly quiet by the Wanganui bowlers, notably Sladden, during post of the period of their second innings. Wickets fell in fairly quick succession, and the total had only leached 100 when the. ninth wicket fell,. Mackenzis and Jlqlliijgs being the principal scorers. Foley and Forde were associated in the final partnership, ancl the pair put a good finishing tpuch to the innings, carrying tjje total to 138 before Forde'was beaten by Sladden. Foley carried ' his bat for 28—the best individual score of the innings. Sladden was responsible for a very fine' bowling performance, obtaining eight wickets for 72 rims. . Wanganui, requiring 185 runs to win, appeared to have a reasonable phance of success, but they, too, experienced greater trouble from the bowlers in their..secqnd effort. Only one run had been obtained whep thp first wicket fell, and the prospects of success faded considerably when the board showed two for 14, and then three for the same number of. runs. Taverner managed' to improve the figures to some extent, bxit when he had been dismissed after scoring 21 and Ritchie, top scorer in the first innings, had been thrown out, the visitors were left with little hope, and that was the position w7ien stumps were drawn for the day—seven for 70, Fitzmaurice was the most successful Wellington bowler.
