HOCKEY TEST

RUGBY GROUND DESIRED. Application was made by the Wellington Hockey Association to the Wellington Rugby Union last evening for the use of Athletic Park .on the occasion of the hockey Test match, New Zealand v. Australia, to be played on the 23rd or the 30th September. As it was impossible to get the use of the Basin Reserve, the association looked to the Rugby Union's assistance if the match was to bo gone on with. "The cancellation of the fixture," the association's letter stated, "would ( be not only a shock to hockey, but also to sport generally in Wellington, as this will be the first occasion on which a New Zealand hockey representative team has been assembled." If the use of Athletic Park were granted, the association suggested that the'gate-be equally divided. After discussing the matter, the committee decided that it was unable to accede to the request on account of fixtures having been arranged for the dates mentioned, but that in the event of .the Rugby match for the 30th September not eventuating, it might be prepared to reconsider the matter.
