BAD LANGUAGE

FOOTBALLER SUSPENDED. "We are not going to have this language on or about the football field," stated the chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union (Mr. J. Prendeviile) when informing an offending player last evening that he had been suspended for the remainder of the season for the nse of bad language. A report concerning the player (fourth grade) was made by the caretaker at the Johnsonville ground to the chairman of the Town Board, and the latter, in a letter to the union, stated:- • "As the language complained of was used within hearing of ladies, I. would ask your union to deal with the culprit, as my board will not tolerate such behaviour on its ground^, and I feel sure of your union's co-operation in dealing with men who have no sense of decency. Unfortunately the referee did not hear this man's epithets, or he would have been dealt with in tbe usual way. Should evidence be necessary I can produce same." After dealing with the case in committee, and hearing the caretaker and 'the player, it was announced that the player had heen suspended for the remainder of the season. "You had a warning last year," said Mr. Prendeville to the player, "but apparently you did not take it to. heart. . . . You are only a boy, and if you cannot control your tongue now, what are you going to do later on? You must learn to oontrol your tongue. If you had acted in a sporting way and had apologised to the caretaker, you would probably ■ have not been here tonight. We do not want you before us again for tin's sort of thing." . It was decided to express to the Town Board the union's appreciation of the caretaker's action.
