The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated 4th March, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—Meat: Suppliesof chilled beef still much above normal and affecting demand for the prices of heavyweight mutton, ewes, and heavyweight lamb. It is reported that Argentine beef shipments are now being limited and space used for mutton, and this is affecting c:i.f. sales of New Zealand mutton. Fair demand for New Zealand lamb and lightweight mutton. New Zealand, beef alttiost; unsaleable, and, quotationa quite nominal. Prices on 4th March were as follow:■— v

New Zealand Mutton.—Lightweight, 7id to 7g-d ; heavyweight, 6id; ewes, 6d. New Zealand Lamb.—Old season's lightweight, lOJd; second-class quality lightweight, lO^d; heavyweight. 9-Jd; new season's (according to weight), lid to Is o|d. Australian Lamb.—New. season's, 10|d to IOAd. South American Lamb.—9d to 9Jd. New Zealand Beef.—Hinds, Akd ; fores, 2Jd. Al-gentine, chilled.—Hinds, s£d; fores, 3jfd. Retail prices ate as follow :—Mutton.—English^ legs Is od, loins Is 9d, shoulders la fed -per lb; imported, legs Is, loins Bd, shoulders 9d per lb. Lamb,—English, logs 2a, loins 2s, shoulders Is 8d per 1b; imported, legs Is 4d, loins Is Sd, shoulders Is 3d per lb. Beef.—English, sirloin and ribs Is lOd to 2s, steak 2s 8d per lb; imported (chilled), airloin and ribs Is, steak Is lOd per lb; frozen, sirloin and ribs B£d, eteak Is 6d to Is 8d per lb.
