STAFF PICNIC
MESSRS. JAS. J. NIVEN AND CO., LTD.
The head office and branch staffs of Messrs. Jas. 3. Niven and Co., Ltd., held their annual picnic at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday, and about 180 people spent a most enjoyable day. The following are the results of tlie sports events: —Apprentices' 100 yds handicap, A. W. Mitchell 1, W. Fitzsimmons 2; single ladies' 75yds handicap, Miss V. Browne 1, Miss Q. Sterling 2; married men's 75yds handicap, D. A. Muir 1, A. Anderson 2; three-legged race, Miss S. Browne and Mr. C. Bryden 1; championship 100 yds, open, I.Eton 1, G. M'Gregon , A. W. Mitchell 3; nail driving (ladies), Mrs.* Basire 1, Mrs. M'Gregor 2; 440 yds open.handicap, I. Eton 1, G. M'Gregor 2, R. Forsyth 3; ladies' sack race, Miss Biddp.ll .1, Miss Smith 2; single men's 100 yds handicap, I. Eton 1, C. Bryden 2; married ladies' f0 yds, Mrs. Anderepn. 1, Mrs. Willing 2; cigarette race, Miss Smith and ,-S. Muir 1, Miss Sterling and J. M'Pherson 2; men's sack race, I. Eton 1, C.. Cross 2; broken melody, Mrs. Anderson and S Milno 1, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Russell 2; hop, step, and.-jump, G. Jl'Grogor 1, A. W. Mitchell 2; Windy city sprint championship, 50yd?, Enox Spencer and A. 0. Mitchell, tie. ' , ' A silver memorial cup was presented by Mrs George M'Gregor, to be competed for by the employees of the compaQy, the winner to, bo the, one securing the highest number of points during the day. This was keenly contested, and won by Mr Ivan Eton. .
The employees of Messrs. Turnbuil and Jones held their annual picnic at the Upper Hutt. An excellent sports programme was carried out, tho principal events resulting as follow:—100 yards championship: E. Swain 1, R. Abel 2, H. Morgan 3. Apprentices and juniors nice: E Hplford 1, H. Morgan 2, J. Head 3. Married men's race: B. Abel 1, F. Curgenven 2. Young ladies' race: Miss Tunk3 1, Miss Reid 2. Find-your-partner race: T. Lazarus and Miss Wareham 1, C. CWrnodv. and Mrs. Hollands 2. Ladies' nail-driving: Mrs. Cole 1, Miss Wareham 2. Ladies' musical chairs: Mrs. Curgenven 1, Miss Reid 2. Gentlemen's musical chairs. Watkins 1, Robinson 2. A cricket match, Office and Warehouse v. Workshop Staff, was won by the latter, after a very close contest. :
