NEW CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL
ARCHBISHOP O'SHEA'S AN-
NOUNCEMENT.
In replying to a gathering.which bade him farevrelL prior to his departure on a visit to Rome, Archbishop O'Shea stated yesterday afternoon that lie expected to have a strenuous time when he returned, because it had been decided to proceed with the election of a portion of the new Cathedral, which would be on the St. Patrick's College site. The •finm of £100,000 would be required for this purpose, and each parish would be required to contribute its quota. They had not pushed the campaign for the Cathedral fund in the past owing to other necessary works taking priority, such as schools: but now he was happy to say that the Wellington archdiocese was splendidly equipped with up-to-date schools, which left them free now to raise a, building worthy of the Empire City. It was their aim to fey the foundation stone on 17th March, 1924, which would be the 50th anniversary of the consecration of their revered Ai-ch-■bishop and ' Metropolitan—Archbiehop Redwood—as Bishop.
