PALMERSTON N., This D»y. At a. meeting of ladies, held yesterday, the Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nagh, M.P.), who presided, stated that lists were being sent out for shilling subscriptions for the wedding present to Princess Mary from the women of New Zealand. Mr. J. R. Hardio (town clerk) was appointed secretary and treasurer to the fund.
Playing cricket for the Railway against the Returned Soldiers' Association team, L. Pegden made 215 runs, which I« the highest score made in lpcal cricket for some time past.
The amount of £21 7s was raised towards the uniform fund of the Municipal Band at a sacred concert held on Sunday night. .- '..■..
A bowling match for the Dixon Cup resulted in the holders (Ptlmerston North) defeating the challengers (Mana.wa.tu) by 24 points to 18. The holders' rink consisted of Welch, Stephenron, H. Seifart, and W. E. Jones (skip), and that of the challengers of W. W. Jones, Tantrum, Brackenridfco and Laurenaon (skip). In a (fame for the Manson and Barr Cup the holders (Manawatu) were defeated by Foxton by 18 points to 16. Manawatu were represented by Hunter, Brown, Radford, and Spooner (ekip), and'Foxton by Rom, Rore, Whibley, and Nye (skip). Two defendants in the Police Court yesterday were fined 20s and costs each for pillion-riding on motor cycles.
