"BEARING" THE BUTTER MARKET.

A suggestion that the butter market had been deliberately "beared" was made in the House of Representatives last night, by Mr. Jv Vigor Brown (Napier). For some six or eight weeks, he said, there had been telegrams sent through the Press Association that the price of butter,, was falling and falling. There ought to be some cen.'Dr for these telegrams, because they were " bearing " the market her*. At soon as the Prime Minister took action with regard

to the surplus batter, it wu stated that the butter was sold. Probably it had been told for some time, It vu not right that telegram* from interested parties should come out here and have the effect of " bearing" the market and robbing producers of millions. The Prime Minister said that he wat afraid he could give no information. It was rather a coincidence that as soon as the Australian and New Zealand Governments indicated that they might cooperate in dealing with the surplus butter purchasers were found for the buttev. There were men at Home now who were interested in the sale of butter, and he would be pleased to hear what they had to say on their return.
