HOUSES AND FURNITURE.
A statement that the compulsory purchase of furniture was being made a condition of the letting of houses-was made in the House of Representatives by Mr. P. Fraser (Wellington Central) last night. He asked if the Government would introduce legislation to make such conditions of letting illegal, as the system was^ being used to evade the law against demanding bonuses for houses. There were cases of families being compelled by their need for a house to purchase old furniture at two or three times its value.
The Minister of Labour (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) said that he would-have inquiries made if ,Mr. Fraser would supply him with the particulars. : There Was no legislation on the subject yet.
