(REUTERS TBLSGRAM.) (Received January 17, 9 a.m.)
CAPETOWN, 16th January.
The conference between the strikers 'and employers lasted all day. An excellent tone prevailed throughout, but it adjourned without reaching an agreement. In spite of the efforts of the extremists underground, officials of the union have agreed unanimously to maintain the essential services. A* small faction fight. between natives in one compound was promptly checked. Otherwise there* lias been no trouble. The Benoni district almost alone is affected by the withdrawal of essential services, and was without light at night.
