TELEGRAPH MATCHES.
The Auckland v. Otago match has ended in" a tie, each club scoring eight The Masterton and Oamaru clubs have each scored a one-point win from Otago, both finishes being very exciting. In the Nelson v. Oamaru match eight games out of twelve are marked incomplete, and are being adjudicated tyi. In the Nelson v. Otago match no less than nine games out of fifteen have been reserved for adjudication. The Masterton v. Palmerston and Masterton v. Canterbury fixtures, which were to have taken place 'last month, have been postponed till later in the season. The Nelson v. Canterbury fixture is scheduled to commence next Saturday. The 1866 contest between these clubs, which Was won -by Canterbury, is generally conceded to be the first telegraphic match played in the Southern Hemisphere. The return match was played 50 years later to celebrate the jubilee, viz., in 1916. ' On this occasion the Nelsonians won, the match being jocularly described as "The Second Trafalgar, or Nelson's Revenge!" Mr. Wood, sen., represented the Canterbury Club in both the 1866 and 1916 matches.
