'VARSITY TO MEET PONEKE
NATIONAL MUTUAL CHALLENGE
The Management Committee of .the- Wellington Rugby Union held a special meeting after the match on Saturday to consider the challenges received for the. National Mutual Challenge Cup. Four teams—Petone, Oriental, 'Varsity, and Marist—entered for the competition, the conditions of which are that the championship winners are to meet the challengers, and, in the event of more than one challenge, the Management Committee shall decide which challenge shall b» accepted. It was generally expected that 'Var-, sity, on present form, although well down the list, were most entitled to play off with Poneke for the cup. 4fter tfijlly considering the position, the committee announced that the decision was in favour of 'Varsity. This will meet ■with general favour.
