ALEXANDER WATSON
Selections from Dickens were the chief items in the recital given by Mr. Alexander Watson in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Saturday evening. Mr. Watson faced another large audience, which in its reception of his efforts displayed the same enthusiasm as has been shown throughout the season. The Dickens items included" " Fizzwigg's Ball," and the pieces from the evergreen "Christinas Cajrol," describing Bob Cratchett's Christmas dinner and Scrooge's nephew's party, The descriptive selection; "A Wild Night at Sea/ from " Martin Chuzzlewit," was delivered with powerful dramatic effect, and thereafter tlie audience was treatedto a very hearty laugh over the adventures of the Pickwickian character, Mr. .Winkle. Other recitations .given by Mr. Watson were Alfred'Noyes's poem, "The Highwayman," Bellew's " Knittin' at the Stoc'kin'." and "The Rule of Three" by W. W. Jacobs. Mr- Watson will conclude his; Wellington sc'json thia week. His programme this' evening, will include the diverting Malvolio scenes from "Twelfth Night," with Sir Toby and his companions iiv their uiiroarious mood. " Horve Kiel " (Browninfi), " Gemini and Virgo" (Calverley), and "Mi's. B,'s Alarms" (James Payn), will be among the other selections. Wednesday will be a Kipling evening.
