MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

The Hutt County Council met yesterday, there being present Councillors J. Barclay (chairman), H. Foley, A. R. Edwards, J, Whiteman, A. M'Kay, ari"d H., D. Atkinson. „ The chairman was appointed to attend a conference regarding the Pakuratahi bridge. . .' . • ■

The Lands and Survey Department wrote stating that the Land Board had refused the request of the council to set aside 20£ acres of Crown land as a recreation reserve at Paekakariki.

It was decided to support the resolution passed by. the Ashburton County Council, protesting against the present high rate of interest and requesting the Prime Minister to try. and obtain the same rate of interest as exists at Home.
