MISSING CAMERAS
Alfred Antonovik, for whom Mr. Leicester appeared, pleaded not guilty in tho Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to a charge of receiving from John Joseph O'Riordan . two cameras, valued at £15 15s, well knowing them to have been stolen. Evidence was given by the manager of the Kodak Com-, party's retail shop in Willis-street, / that two cameras, produced, were Stolen from hia shop. ,
John Joseph O'Riordan, a clerk, formerly employed as assistant at tho Kodak shop, but at present on remand on.charges of theft of cameras, eaid he met the accused first about three weeks ago, in a cafe in Cuba-streets After 3uppor accused asked him whether it was possible to get-away any cameras from the shop, and witness replied that it was not, as each camera was numbered.- Witness then informed accused that he already had some in pawn, which" he wished to get out, and admitted at. the same time that he had taken them from the Kodak Bhop. Antonovik then said if the tickets were handed over he would get the cameras out of pawn. By agreement, \ they met nest morning and witness handed over two pawn tickets for two cameras. 'That night Antonovik said he had secured the two cameras, end, as witness was short_ of money, lent him £1. At. another meeting Antonovik lent him 6s, and at still another meeting 2s 6d. Altogether, witness h»d given accused about six pawn tickets. ' ■ ■
..Under cross-examination, O'Riordan said he understood Antonovik was to hold the cameras until he (witness) could repay him the amount expended in taking them out of pawn. 'A Manners-street jeweller identified Ajitonovik as a man who had come to his shop with the two cameras produced, with a request that the numbers should be removed. Witnes3 replied that he did not do that sort of work. (Proceeding.)
