LOWER HUTT
THE NEW COUNCIL.
There was no Mayoral election at Lower Hutt, Mr. E. P. Rishworth being returned unopposed, as was the case two years ago-
There were fourteen candidates for the council, and in the following list giving the result of the voting the first nine have been elected:— M'Bain, A. 797 Strand, W. Of the old council Messrs. Willoughby Knight, E. J. Guiness, and A. Macaskill did not seek re-election, and Mr. W. B. Hardy was defeated. The new councillors are Messrs. A. M'Bain, W. T. Strand, J. Brasell, and W. N. Dempsey.
Mr. M'Bain, who topped the poll, is headmaster of the Eastern Hntt School, Mr. W. T. Strand is a farmer, and is chairman of the River Board,,' Mr. J. Brasell, who is an ex-councillor, is a wellknown market gardener, and Mr. W. N. Dempsey is a retired headmaster of the District* High School.
