MR. M'EWAN MAYOR FOR FURTHER TERM. There was a triangular contest for the Mayoralty at Petone, and Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, who has been Mayor of the borough for fourteen years, had an e;isy victory. Ho failed by 184 votes to secure a complete majority over his two opponents combined. was need for a go-slow policy during the next two years on account of the tightness of the money market. Cheers were given for all the candidates. THE COUNCIL FIGURES. A feature of the council election was that only one Official Labour nominee, Mr. J. L. Churchouse, was returned. Mr. Churchouse was second. Two sitting Labour councillors vipie defeated. Of tho old council Mr. W. Cox did rot seek re-election, and Messrs. E. Tovey and J. Kyle were defeated. The new councillors are Messrs. Ford, Jones, and Hartley.
