NUMBER OF BARMAIDS.
The member for Christchurch North (Mr, L. M. Isitt) is anxious to discover the number of barmaids registered in the Dominion. He recently asked for a return giving this information, but bo far has not received it. Yesterday he asked the Minister for Labour if he would favourably consider granting the return. There was a suspicion that the law was being evaded in this respect, and it was desired to have the information to see what was the position. Sir William B«rries said that if he could be assured that the presentation of the return would not lead to a long discussion of the licensing question he would be glad to supply it. Mr. Isitt did not think that there would be a discussion.
