HOUSING PROBLEM
In connection with the housing problem, a correspondent ("Homeless") writes: "Rumour hath it that the City Council purposed resuming the Lahmann Health Home to relieve the urgent housing problem, and the same dame is credited with a report that the attitude of Miramar residents to the proposed amalgamation decided the City Fathers against making use of the house although it has all conveniences, and is eminently suitable for letting in flats. It is a great pity Christma^ should bo faced with so many of our citizens unable tp find a home while this and other places are vacant, and possibly the space you are kindly giving to the matter in your valuable columns may- help to ameliorate the trouble." *
The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) explained to a Post reporter to-day that, along with the Acting City Engineer and several oounciljors, he had made a very careful inspection of the home. As the home did not offer suoh possibilities as were expected, the council was reluctantly compelled not to entertain the suggestion that it should be utilised ip the manner proposed by "Homeless." Tho advantages gained would be outweighed by the difficulties presented.
