HOUSING PROBLEM

10 IHB EDITOR.

Sir, —In partial solution of the above I would suggest to the Government, City Council, or both, this: That the hutments or buildings at Featherstan and Trentham Camps that are not wanted for Defence purposes for training •, be re-erected on Government or council lands, with a fair rental for same on cost of re-erection and land value; lease to be given ;for security of tenure. No power to sell above, which revert back to either of above if not wanted, .at any time. This would tide over the congestion at the present time, until the Government or City Council could erect workers' dwellings. The buildings could be used for emigrants, or even the "digger" with an English bride would prefer these to apartments, until he got settled in a home of his own. According to the Health authorities these hutments are built on the latest scientific plans, so they should be better than two or three families ins one house, or more in an apartment house, and hard to get even these. —I am, etc., G. D. M'KENZIE. 18th Soptemh»
