INDUSTRIAL SITUATION

SUGGESTED CONFERENCE OF EM-

PLOVERS AND WORKERS.

(BI TEI^CRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

CHRISTCHURCH, 17th June,

The secretary of the Federation of Labour has received a letter from the Hon. W. H. Herries, in reply to his letter of 6th May suggesting that a national Industrial Conference of representatives of employers and workers be held to discuss the industrial situation. " I have to express my appreciation of the evident desire of your federation to meet the employers of this Dominion regarding this important question," the Minister says. " I believe, however, that Mr. Massey has certain proposals in the matter under consideration, and in view of this it will be advisable to defer the suggested conference until after his return to New Zealand. I shall be pleased to place your proposal before him and Sir Joseph Ward as soon as possible after their arrival in the Dominion."
