HISTORICAL STUDY
A meeting of the Historical Section of' the Philosophical Institute was,held last night. Mr. Ekdon Beet presided.
The Rev. Father Gilbert read an interesting paper on "The Survey and Plan of the New Zealand Company's First Settlement." Father Gilbert stated that he had gathered some information concerning- the names of Wellington- streets, but had not yet had the opportunity to prepare it for presentation to the section.
A papeT, entitled "An Episode in the Life of Sir George Grey," was read 1 by Dr. C. Prendergast-Knight. It embodied a letter written in May, 1841, by. Dr. Charles Knight (Dr. Prendergast-Knight's grandfather) nt the close of a voyage from England to Adelaide in the ship Lord Glenelg, in which Dr. Knight was surgeon, and Sir George Grey (then Captain Grey) was a passenger. ./ The contributors of papers were heartily thanked by the meeting. .
