TO-DAY'S SESSIONS

There was a good attendance at the competitions this morning, and a very good audience this afternoon. t This evening's programme will include a junior piano solo, "Humoreske" (Gade), a junior operatic dance, the finals of the sailer's hornpipe in /costume, and the Highland fling, musical monologues, recitations, and vocal numbers.

Master Searle won this class with! 141 points, Masters Whitehead and Bosher tied for second place with 139 points, and Master Power came next with 138 points. _ Masters Smith . and Crawford were highly commended. Reading at Sight, Boy ,br Girl, under • 16.—Competitors : Master J. R. Williams, Miss Lottie I. Harris, Hataitai; Miss Tanita H^ Eggers, Karaka Bay; Master William T. .H. Knox, Master Reginald K. Rowe, Miss Annie C. Flan, Wellington; Miss Leah Hyman, Hataitai; Miss ThelmavAitken, Wellington; Master Raymond Whitehead, Lyall Bay; Master Leith Riddell, Wellington; Miss Kathleen Flanagan, Lyall Bay; Miss Mary Cooley, Wellington. Mr. Montague said that he had been astonished at the remarkably fine performances given.' Master Riddell, 149 points, was placed first, the judge remarking that it was quite unusual for a boy to win such a competition. Miss Cooley was awarded 146 points, and Miss Hyman third place with 144 points. Miss Harris and Master Knox were very highly cpmmended. "Actually," said Mr. Montague, "this is one of the best tests in the competitions. I congratulate all the performers on their pluck in entering for such a stiff test, and most of them on their excellent readings." Highland Fling, in Costume, boy or girl under 12.
