GENERAL MAURICE'S REVIEW

POSITION PREGNANT WITH POSSIBILITIES

(Received September 28, 8 a.m.)

I * LONDON, 27th September. I Brigadier-General Maurice, military correspondent to the Daily Chronicle, I -writes : "Now that the French have occupied Prilep and the Serbians have cap-. I iured thePftpadiva mountains, which are one of the main heights in the Babuna I range, and control Veles, the First Bulgarian Army, under General Jesof, can | only ntire by one road, to Kincheco (Tetovo or Kalkandelin), which is com- ! pletely separated from the rest of the Bulgarians by the Karajitsa mountains. The Bulgarians can only retire if the centre group, which is retiring in disorder before the Serbians, manages to check the Serbian advance. The Vaixlar Valley covers Uskiib, and the Serbians are already considerably nearer Uskub than Jesof's army. If the Serbians get there first, the First Army will be cut off altogether from the railway, and will have to find its way through the mountains as best it may without the prospect of being supplied wit*h food and munitions. We may be certain that the enemy is doiug everything to rush up troops to cover Uskub, which is pregnant with possibilities. The Serbian's are able to fight well on rations which would mean starvation to the British, but they must have ammunition. We must remember they aro already a long way from their railway. ■,•■■'' .
