THE BULGARIAN DEFEAT
IRREPARABLE DAMAGE DONE
DECISION MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE
(BI TELEGRAPH. —UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTBIOHT.) • (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATIOH.)
; LONDON, 26th September. Before the Bulgarian line gave way the fighting was very severe. The Buigffiana put up a determined resistance, sustaining heavy losses. The present siuation of the Bulgarian Army is dangerous. If the Allies reach TjEkub, the eject will probably be decisive, and will mean the complete defeat of the Bulgirian Army. Our ten days' marching and fighting in the mountains, however, nakes the organisation of communications difficult. Therefore, we cannot de-■pnd-on securing decisive results, but the enemy has sustained such heavy nsualties and losses of material that the army's recovery, failing effective support torn the Central Powers, is extremely doubtful. It is noteworthy that a great <eal of the'eredit of the victory is due to the British, whose persistent attecke ,t Doiran, in face of heavy opposition,, prevented the enemy transferring reerves westward to meet the main attack.
