WEATHER CHANGE EXPECTED

There is every indication^ to-day of a change in the weather. During the last 24 hours the barometer has fallen steady ly in the south, while northerly and westerly winds, strong to gale,, have prevailed in and southward of Cook Strait. Fair weather has ruled, but cloudiness has increased generally, and rain was reported this forning on the West Coast and southern districts of the South Island. :

The forecast of the Dominion Meteorologist (Mr. D. C. Bates) for the 24 hours as from 9 a.m. to-day is. for westerly winds, strong to gale. The barometer will probably fall, but rise again in the south after 24 to 36 hours;- Heavy seas are anticipated between Castlepoint and Kaikoura, and on all the western coast; moderate to rough elsewhere. Commimi-. cation with East Cape is interrupted, but warnings for westerly gales are being exhibited at almost all the usual stations. ' ; ®-

The weather is expected to be equally and changeable; clouding over, and rain following generally. Heavy rain is probable on the West Coast and southern districts, with rising livens. '
