CITY LIGHTING
COMPARATIVE RETURNS.
The City Corporation's electric lighting returns for the month of August, 1918, give the following figures, those for the corresponding week of 1917 being given in parenthesis : — Revenue, £9266 (£9217), working expenses £4708 (£3950); capital charges £1400 (£1400); credit balance £3158 (£3867); units sold 616,134 (583,313). . The returns for five months, from Ist April to 31st August, 1918, are as follow :—Revenue £45,193 (£41,648); working expenses £21,045 (£16,951); capital charges £7000 (£7000); credit balance £17,148 (£17,697); units sold 2,829,759 (2,513,156). , In the ihonthly period both revenue and working expenses show increases, and the extra number of units sold amounted to 32,821. For the five-month-ly period the increase in revenue was £3545; in working expenses £4094; and in the number of units sold 316,603.
