STATEMENT BY FEDERATION OF LABOUR
A statement concerning the position Has been issued' upon ..the authority of the National Executive -of the; United Federation of Labour at Auckland. This reads, in part, as follows:—"We regard that refusal (of the employers to meet the federation; in conference) as unreas qhable.. and!_ illogical,, unreasonable because it -is equal to an interference by tho employers in the method of organisa tipn of the employees, and illogical because it is a refusal by- the Mine Owners' Association, a national hody, to meet the Miners' Federation, another national body, thereby denying -Uie emplo;jteestbe right the employers enjoy and exercise. In our opinion, it is the duty of tho Government to prevent this threatened disaster, by insisting that the conference shall take place, and we believe'the Government have abundant powers to do 'this."
