AN ITALIAN OFFENSIVE

ON WESTERN TRENTINO BORDER

ARTILLERY ATTACK ON TWENTY-FIVE MILE FRON

WASHINGTON, 14th August. General Juglielmotti, military attache at the Italian Embassy, says that an Italian offensive in tho Alps is imminent. The Italians have opened an intense artillery bombardment along twenty-five miles of front, near the Swiss border. It is believed that a successful thrust here will endanger tho enemy's positions in the Trontino.

cay that the Italians opened an intense artillery attack on a twenty-five mile front in the .mountain zone near the Swiss border, where there has been practically no fighting since tho beginning of the war. Military circles consider this is the starting of an Italian offensive, and point out that the Austro-Germans recently concentrated infantry and artillery in the Trentino region. A successful Italian offensive would endanger the enemy's Trentino positjpns. It is' further reported that 'Alpine troops have captured Mount Monte Stello, and are advancing up Mont Albiolo. - (AUSTBALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION AND REUTEB.) LONDON, 14th August. ■An Italian Official report states : In the Tonale region we carried out thrusts and occupied Mount Mbntillo, the Punta di San Matteo, and a spur south-eastward ot Cima Zigolon. Our batteries set on fire supply depots on the left bank of the Piave.
